Description: Highly frequented 8 hour route through the desert to the northernmost city of Chile. The other option is to go from La Paz - Iquique, Chile.

Oruro, Bolivia - Calama, Chile
Description: For the more adventurous, this rural route goes over the high deserts (hot and cold) to the mining capital of Chile, where you can transfer to the much sought San Pedro de Atacames.

Brazil is notoriously fickle and bureaucratic with cross-border routes. Some days routes are available, and the next day they are not.

Foz do Iguacu, Brazil - Asuncion, Paraguay
Description: 5 hour trip that goes to the capital of Paraguay.

Routes from Chile

Arica, Chile - La Paz, Bolivia
Description: Highly frequented 8 hour route through the desert to the capital of Bolivia. You can also start the trip from Iquique, Chile.  (No bus or train routes exist from Arica across the border to Peru. They are only available from Santiago).

Description: A 20-hours trip from the salsa capital of the world, Cali. You can also start the journey from Colombia's capital.
